"Where Have All the Students Gone?"
During the spring 2006 semester, a lively discussion on Berkeley’s Teach-net maillist focused on the concern that students are just not showing up to classes, especially as the term progresses. Is it a trend or a blip? Of the many possible causes, do some seem more likely than others? Is it important that students aren’t in the classroom? And what if anything can be/should be done?
The Fall 2006 Committee on Teaching Forum will continue to probe this topic with a panel and discussion.
Wednesday, October 25, 2006
3:30-5:00 pm
The Heyns Room, The Faculty Club
The Committee on Teaching forum is open to the entire campus community.
A podcast of this event is now available. One of the participants in the forum, Professor Martha Olney of Economics, surveyed her students about what factors motivate them to attend or not attend class.
