Lecturer Teaching Fellows Program

building a teaching community

The Lecturer Teaching Fellows Program at Berkeley provides lecturers an exceptional opportunity to meet regularly with colleagues from across campus to discuss teaching issues. Ten to twelve lecturers are selected annually to participate in a series of workshops and seminars focused on teaching and learning. The program is open to continuing appointees and “pre-six” lecturers whose expectation is to be long-term/continuing appointees.

Lecturer Teaching Fellows will meet in workshop and seminar sessions eight times (once a month) during the course of the academic year. The agenda for the year is based on what issues the participants wish to cover, and participants themselves will lead most of the workshops. Topics usually include course and syllabus design, the development of instructional and assessment strategies that support student learning, and new methods of pedagogy. There may be occasional presentations by other Berkeley faculty and staff with expertise in areas of interest to the group.

Participants will also arrange to visit each other’s classes.

All participants must be scheduled to teach at least one course during the year of their fellowship.

Lecturers selected to participate in the program will receive course improvement grants of $1,500 each to be applied to their home department account.
