Test Proctoring Assistance for Students with Disabilities

If your department does not have the staff to provide proctoring for disabled students' accommodated exams, our centralized proctoring service is available to assist you. You may designate a GSI or other department staff to coordinate this request.

For Summer Sessions, in order to locate space and hire proctors, who work on an on-call basis, we require requests two weeks in advance for all quizzes and exams.

Reminder of spring semester deadlines: For midterms and quizzes, two weeks notice. For final exams, 4/2/08.

If you are able to provide your own proctor, but your student needs assistive technology, make arrangements directly with the Assistive Technology Specialist, Lucy Greco (lgreco@berkeley.edu). Deadline for reservations is two weeks. Note that Ms. Greco does not proctor students. She only reserves a room and the technology; you must supply the proctor.

Hours of Service

Proctoring for exams takes place from 8:30am-5:00pm. Exam delivery and pick up hours are 8:30am –12pm to 1-4:00pm.

Requesting the service

  • Our staff is part time and proctors are hired and paid on an hourly basis, specifically for your exam. To insure the fulfillment of your needs, please list all future exams when you make your first request. We cannot guarantee service past the two week deadline.
  • You may submit your request by:
      1. filling out the online submission form (preferred),
      2. emailing proctoring@berkeley.edu, or
      3. calling the Campus Proctoring Service, 643-4691
  • You will receive an email confirmation that your request has been received. Closer to your exam time you will receive a detailed email outlining where and when the student reports, and exam delivery/pick up information.

Informing students that proctoring has been arranged

  • Students have the responsibility to discuss their accommodations with you. Once you have received the final detailed confirmation from our office you are responsible for notifying students of the exam details and requesting students confirm they received notification.
  • Because of student confidentiality, please do not list students' names on a web page, public list, or group email.

Delivering and picking up the exam

  • You, or someone you designate (such as a GSI or departmental staff person), need to deliver the exam to 260 Chavez no later than 4:00 pm the day before the proctored exam. Unfortunately, we do not have the resources to pick up and return exams. Unless other arrangements have been made, the exam will be administered in a central campus space.
  • You may pick up  the exams from 260 Chavez, Monday through Friday from 8:30 am-12pm, 1:00pm-4:00pm staring the business day after the proctored exam.
  • Exams being sent by email to the ATC for students using assistive technology such as screen reader, WYNN or others, must be emailed no later than 12:00 noon the day before the exam, to Assistive Technology Specialist Lucy Greco, at lgreco@berkeley.edu.
  • Exams being sent to by email to the Assistive Technology Center (ATC), formerly known as “the Cave,” will be emailed back to the professor, unless other arrangements are made. Please email ATC technology specialist Lucy Greco (lgreco@berkeley.edu) when you have received the completed exam, so that she can remove it from her computer.
  • Alternate delivery/pickup arrangements can be made by calling 643-4691.

If you have questions about submitting the requested information (or proctoring in general) please contact the Campus Proctoring Service (643-4691, proctoring@berkeley.edu).
