Situate Assessment

Prior to designing outcomes assessment plans and strategies, departments need to first clarify what is it that faculty want to accomplish through assessment activities. Is it to improve the program, inform new curricular or co-curricular activities, and/or demonstrate/prove the value of the program? The results from an assessment process should provide information which can be used to determine whether or not intended outcomes are being achieved and how the programs can be improved. Assessment design needs to be situated and be guided by the question of how and when the results will be used by whom
