Here we are, another semester comes to an end! Whatever this term looked like for you, however it unfolded in ways that you planned for and ways you didn't, you showed up for it. And finishing the semester is itself an accomplishment. We mean that!
The end of a semester has a way of collapsing into itself. There's so much to finish, so much to grade, so much to hand off, and the last class session just ... happens. It has come and gone and you're not really sure how. But endings deserve as much intention as beginnings.
There's a concept from the Akan people of Ghana that we recently came across, called “Sankofa”, and we couldn’t stop thinking about how fitting it felt for this moment. It’s often represented as a bird that flies forward while its head is turned back, carrying an egg in its beak. The word itself translates roughly as: "It is not wrong to go back and fetch what you forgot." And it's not about regret, it's about the wisdom of bringing what's behind you into what's ahead.
That's the spirit behind this newsletter. Review a few ideas in this newsletter for closing your semester with that same kind of intention.
