This proposal outlines a two-year interdisciplinary teaching project that increased student agency, mentorship, and community-based learning. The class includes 10 to 14 undergraduates and an equal number of high school students, with many being students of color and first-generation. Saturday sessions at the West Oakland Youth Center highlight the students’ dedication as they mentor high school peers. The co-teaching team bridged the academic/professional divide to challenge conventional learning approaches, enhanced by the project-based community engagement with a local partner. This presentation will share lessons learned, course artifacts, and storytelling from the interdisciplinary team.
