9:10 - 10:00 Plenary Session: Co-creating Liberatory Teaching with Students (Chevron Auditorium)
Invited Speakers: Dr. Pablo Gonzales (Lecturer, Ethnic Studies), Natalie Adriana Salcido (Undergraduate Student, Chicanx Latinx Studies), Rune Soto Ponce (Undergraduate Student, Chicanx Latinx Studies)
For our opening session, Dr. Pablo Gonzalez will be in conversation with two of his students, Natlie Adriana Salcido and Rune Soto Ponce. The conversation will focus on the ways Pablo enacts liberatory pedagogy in his courses. His students, in turn, will be invited to respond to his teaching reflection, describing how it sits within their overall experience at Berkeley as well as their hopes and visions for the future. A goal of this opening session is to offer conference attendees one interpretation of liberatory teaching. A second goal is to illustrate the ways our definitions of liberatory teaching are sometimes co-constructed in conversation with our students.
